Hello 🙂 My name is Xenia and I’m a law student at Durham University. Though I absolutely love my course I’ll always have a soft spot for Economics and Literature.
When I tutor you I will therefore be doing three things: Firstly, I will break up the question in all its different components. When you get into the habit of doing this you will realise that so many questions seem different because of their wording but are ultimately asking for the exact same thing. Secondly, I will help you better structure the knowledge you already have in a way that makes it easier to remember. I find that grouping and linking bits of information can go a long way in helping me (and now you) truly understand something well enough to explain it. ‘If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough’. I will help you structure your answer in a way that helps you develop ‘an answering method’. In effect this means that I will help you figure out not what to answer but how to answer.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
