Hi – I’m a third-year Philosophy, Politics, and Economics student at the University of Oxford. I have a passion for academics across both the humanities and the sciences and greatly enjoy being able to share that with others looking to learn.
The reason I applied to read Philosophy, Politics, and Economics was due to the diverse and broad nature of the degree. Whether that be the mathematical and analytical elements of economics, the prosaic and argumentative elements of politics, or the logical and rigorous precision of philosophy, it neatly encapsulated my passion for both the humanities and mathematics.
I hope that my understanding of both areas of academia can help a student across multiple subjects to get the best results possible and the most out of their education. Having been elected President of the Oxford Union, I think I have a unique understanding of the University and can provide unique assistance with applications and interviews.
My lessons’ structure will be tailored to fit whatever the specific need of the student may be. Whether that be covering fresh content missed out in the classroom, preparing for exams with revision and exam technique guidance, or university applications and personal statements – the exact structure of the lesson will depend on what the student hopes to get out of it.
It may take the form of a discussion surrounding the content that needs to be covered, it may be working through an exam or set of problem questions together, or it may be the form of a mock interview – again, the form of the lesson is dictated by the needs of the student. Irrespective, each lesson will have a structured plan submitted beforehand – so that they are prepared and can get the maximum academic utility from the time available.
If there is any material – such as a draft of a personal statement, an essay, or a particularly challenging set of problem questions – that the student wants to focus on, I will look over them before hand so that we can go through the material together during the session. All of my lessons will strive to foster a passion for the subject but if that isn’t quite possible, I’ll make sure that at least the student enjoys the tutoring sessions and can find confidence in the subject through the progress they are making in it.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
