About me

Hi, I’m Ellie and I would love to tutor your child! I am a second-year student studying for an integrated Masters degree in Pharmacology at the University of Bath and achieved a First last year. I utilise my love for the Biology and Maths to help develop and build confidence in my tutees. My goal is to reignite their love for the subject and I find a different perspective can really change how my students view and understand concepts.

I have been tutoring for the past 4 years in the Sciences and Maths, teaching ages ranging from 8-16-year-olds. I have taught at many different levels and I aim to adapt my tutoring to your child’s pace. As well as this, for 5 years I have worked as a STEM mentor and at the Beaver and Scout association volunteering as a leader, so I have a lot of experience engaging with children of all backgrounds and ages.

I am friendly and easygoing and I believe the key to a great tutor-tutee relationship is treating them like a peer. This results in a less informal one on one tutorial which is extremely beneficial for the student.

About my sessions

I find studying for exams and topic tests can be challenging, but by pooling all the student’s notes and knowledge into one space it can help us focus on the key information.

I am a visual learner and this comes across in my tutoring style. I like to combine verbal discussion with diagrams, images and mindmaps to reinforce key points. I have my own collection of notes and diagrams for which I use in lessons and after each session I send the student the powerpoint we’ve worked on during the lesson. I strongly believe that the sessions are tutee led and together we can work on identifying areas of weakness and improving on this. Ultimately, leading to a more confident and happier student! We start the lessons going through and explaining key concepts and finish with exam practice on that topic. I like to set a question at the end of the session so that they ensure they understand the topic completely.

In the next session, we discuss their answer and if there is an issue, we can spend more time discussing this to ensure a complete understanding.  Any questions, do not hesitate to reach out to me!
