About me

I am a recent biology graduate from the University of Cambridge. I know what it takes (and all the tricks) to do well at GCSE’s, A-levels and get into a top University, and I can help others do the same! I want to share my enthusiasm for Biology – I loved my degree, finding out how living things work.

I have a solid grasp of biology, and importantly experience teaching it. Some concepts can be difficult, but I am good at explaining things in simple terms. If you are interested in support for University applications, I can also help. I know what a good personal statement looks like, having seen countless from fellow successful Cambridge students, and having reviewed job applications myself. I also have specific experience of the Cambridge University application process and I can help you to be as prepared as possible.

Outside of my degree, I love sport: football, squash, tennis, running – name it I’ve tried it. I also love travel, and doing biology has taken me to some incredible places to work with some amazing wildlife, such as Costa Rica and Madagascar!

About my sessions

Each tutorial will be tailored to the student, depending on their needs and goals. Lessons will focus on topics students want to give most attention to, as well as teaching all-important exam technique. Importantly though, lessons will be kept interesting! I love biology and I want my students to see why it’s such an interesting subject. A typical lesson will begin by going through any work set from the previous session. These will be exam-style questions so that students are well practiced at answering these types of questions.

We will then go through a topic of the students choice, and I’ll help the student through anything they don’t understand, and help them to pick out the key points to learn for the exam. Lessons normally end with answering a few typical exam questions from the days topic together. For students seeking help with personal statements or Oxbridge applications, sessions work slightly differently.

For personal statements I can go through the statement with the student, advising them on content, structure and getting relevant experience. My experience going through the Cambridge University application process means that I can also help students to prepare for an Oxford or Cambridge interview, answering questions about the process and giving them tips of my own. I can also do mock interviews with a student.

Personally interviewed

We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach.
