My name is Giada and I am in my first year of studying Physics at the University of Bristol. I really enjoy the the breadth of study of the course as I get to study Physics, Maths and Astrophysics and I also enjoy reading into the more philosophical aspects of Physics.
Astrophysics has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember and I never fail to be amazed at how humans, who seem so small and insignificant in comparison to the rest of the universe, can understand its most complex workings and I hope to be someone who understands these things too.
I believe that Physics and Maths have bad reputations as subjects, and that this reputation is undeserved. Often people think that excelling in Physics and Maths requires a specific kind of intelligence, but I maintain that with hard work, confidence and the right teaching, anyone can obtain top grades in these subjects.
I have a lot of sympathy for both parents and children currently going through burden of GCSE’s and A Levels, (I can assure you that it does get better at university), since a lot of subjects require rote memorisation which isn’t enjoyable for anyone, even though it does work on occasion. I’ve noticed a lot of students struggle when trying to apply this technique to Physics and Maths because these subjects are more conceptually based.
I’ve found that it is much more time effective to reduce the subjects to a set of basic concepts which you can work to understand and hopefully I can help you to do so. To help students improve, I think it is important to gauge what the student already knows, identify areas where they have trouble and then set up goals to be achieved, whether it be a short term goal of solving a specific problem or a long term goal of increasing one’s subject grade, I think it’s crucial to have something to work toward.
I think that learning is a process that works very differently for different students and it’s important to cater one’s tutoring style to the student’s learning style. So feel free to message me or meet for a free video meeting as I’d love to help you reach your academic ambitions.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
