I teach with a focus on good understanding – I believe this is the best way to ace exams. Having only done A levels recently I am aware of all the common pitfalls which exams present to students. Online lessons will proceed similarly to face-to-face lessons, combining written and aural explanations for each concept. Chemistry is a subject where a student will benefit from tackling questions they may not be able to do at first, but with hints from the tutor, being able to gradually work their way through it. This kind of learning sticks more than simply copying/listening to a tutor. The approach is similar to the Oxford tutorial system. I can particularly help well with exam technique, and fundamental principles of maths/chemistry/physics which may be difficult to learn at first. If I don’t think my student has truly understood a concept, I will not move on until they’re completely confident. At the end of a topic I will ensure a student can teach me the content back without regurgitating words – not just rote learning. For college students I’m also able to help with UCAS applications, specifically for Oxbridge (writing personal statements, practice interviews, giving advice for higher reading, and teaching certain Chemistry first year university topics to supplement an interview).
