I am a Durham University graduate with a degree in Natural Sciences majoring in Physics and Chemistry. I am a keen problem-solver and a patient teacher, and hope to further your understanding in your subjects! I’m friendly and approachable, and having completed numerous successful sessions on MyTutor, believe I have am able effectively communicate ideas to my students.
Having tutored in the past, I think that a great benefit of tutoring over classroom lessons is not only that we can shape the tutorials around what the student requires, but also that the style of teaching can be adapted to suit the student. Our tutorials will be all about what you want to cover, so don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s something you’re less comfortable with! If you have specific questions that you want looking over, I can go through them with you. Or, if you’d rather hand me the reigns, then just let me know which topic area you want to study in advance and I can prepare teaching material such as worked examples, and questions for you to do in your own time.
As a big believer in understanding why we solve problems in certain ways rather than just knowing when to apply which formula – which might not always be enough when it comes to solving problems – I hope to give my students a solid understanding of the foundations of the subject so that we know how and why to approach certain questions in certain ways. I also want my tutorials to be enjoyable – learning is really fun and rewarding and I aim to let my students appreciate this too! If you have any further questions, please do book a ‘Meet the Tutor Session’ through the website. Let me know how I can help!
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
