I’m a 4th year medical student at Nottingham currently doing my placements in different specialties.
I’m incredibly passionate about science because of its diversity and the impact it has on all of us, and I always aim to channel this passion into my tutoring. I have been tutoring with MyTutor for just over 2 years and love having the opportunity to guide students to achieve their potential.
My experience has helped my ability to find different and relatable ways to explain complex concepts so that they’ll make sense to you and will be easier to both remember and apply in exams. However, the thing that I consider most important is building a rapport with my students. I believe it’s hugely important that we find some common ground (whether that’s music, movies or netflix shows!), and I aim to make my relationship with my students like that of friends as opposed to a teacher and student to give our sessions a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
In my experience I’ve found that things that students find challenging can be broken down into two broad areas – knowledge/understanding and application/exam technique.
I tailor my sessions not only to your unique specification, but also to how you best learn – for example, if you’re a visual learner I’ll make a particular effort to use more diagrams and flow charts in our sessions. If you aren’t sure what type of learner you are, that’s absolutely fine and we can try a range of visual, auditory and kinaesthetic approaches to see which is perfect for you.
During lessons we’ll go over any theory you’re unsure of until you’re completely happy with it and then go through some past paper questions to start developing your exam technique and reinforce the theory material we have covered. After lessons, I’m happy to give and mark homework to further reinforce your knowledge (although I won’t force you too unless I think it’s absolutely necessary!).
When it gets close to exam time we’ll make our main focus development of exam technique through past paper questions and re-covering any topics you’d like to go through again. What now? I’d love to answer any questions you might have via the contact button at the top. You can also book in a 15 minute free meeting where I’ll give you a tour of the classroom, explain how I could help you and get to know you a bit!
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
