Hi, I’m a friendly and enthusiastic 4th year Master of Mathematics graduate from the University of Warwick, achieving a first. I have always had a passion for maths and love passing on this enthusiasm and knowledge through tutoring. There is nothing better than seeing that ”light-bulb moment” when a student understands something for the first time. I’m experienced with giving online lessons through TiC for A-levels, GCSEs and 13+/11+ exams. I have also taught small groups of maths undergraduates and have marked their assessed work and given feedback. In addition I have experience in teaching chess in schools.
I aim to provide friendly and interactive tutorials to help improve students ability to solve problems as well as their confidence in doing so. I will ask students what they wish to gain through their tuition. It could be one particular area they wish to improve or perhaps they are revising for an exam. I can then tailor the tutorials to the individual student and if needed, the exam board. The best way to learn maths is to do maths. Solving problems is the best (and most fun) way to improve your maths. It will help you remember the theory as well as understand it. As such, I will be able to provide unlimited tailored examples for students to try outside of tuition times. We can then go back through them in a later tutorial to check answers, understanding and layout of the solution. During tutorials I will be able to cover some theory (if needed) and then students can answer examples to show their understanding and develop their problem solving skills. I will be able to provide direction and clear and concise explanations to help the student solve the problems during the tuition. We will also be able to go through any past papers.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
