I’m a fourth year physics student at the University of Oxford studying for my master’s. I’m specialising in astrophysics and theoretical physics! I love studying physics, learning maths and understanding more about our universe! I’ve really enjoyed gaining an in depth knowledge of physics during my degree and am passionate to share this with others! I spent this summer living in China doing a physics internship at a university. I did one-on-one English tutoring (including for the IELTS) and correcting English on research papers for people within the community. I’ve had experience tutoring in Oxford, including tutoring for the PAT (Physics Aptitude Test). I ran sessions for up to 15 students at a time to go over practice physics and maths questions. I treat each student individually and amend my teaching style to suit how they learn! I recognise where students need extension work or extra support to reach their full potential!
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
