I have just finished first year as a Product Design and Technology student at Loughborough and I have a huge passion for design. I chose to do Product Design at GCSE (Resistant Materials) as well as A Level and I achieved A*s in both qualifications. I believe that having completed my first year studying the subject at university, I have a broader understanding and perspective of the subject than I did before and have gained new skills. This is what will help me teach the theory of the subject to my students, as to be able to answer the design theory questions, you should not only have an understanding of the specific materials and processes, but you should be able to think out of the box in order to answer “wordy” questions. With regards to mathematics, I took the subject both at A Level and GCSE – at GCSE, I achieved an A* grade and at A Level I achieved an A grade. I enjoy solving mathematical problems and have found that the best way to approach studying Maths is to learn the techniques and practice. As an individual who loves reading, I have always had a passion for English – at GCSE level, I achieved A*s for both English Literature and English Language, and I achieved an A in English Literature at A Level. I believe I would be able to help students write essays that do not steer away from the question.
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
