Modern and Medieval Languages (French and Italian) - Oxford University
10 completed lessons
Hi, my name is Alice and I’m a Modern and Medieval Languages student (French and Italian) at Oxford University.
I’ve been online tutoring for several years now and have also had experience in France as a language assistant for the British Council.
Having grown up between London and Rome, I’ve had exposure to different education systems which has given me a strong approach to different learning methods. I’m happy to help anyone interested in Modern Languages with their exams or Oxbridge applications, as well as English Language and Literature and French/ Italian IB/A-Level/GCSEs. I’ll typically begin our first lesson by getting to know the student’s needs and having a look at their previous work to see where they’re struggling and understand why, or if there are any areas we can improve together. I also like to see the type of work they’re doing at school so I can follow this as closely as possible.
I use different resources when tutoring online, such as video clips, images and notes. I also keep a track of how my students enjoy working, i.e. what they find more helpful in my lessons and what they don’t.
I may give a little bit of individual work to do between sessions depending on what we’re doing. The end of the lesson is time for feedback (both ways) to make sure we’re on the same page and that the student feels like they are progressing, and then we’ll make a plan for next time.
About my sessions
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
