Hi! I’m Ben and I am a Cambridge University masters student about to start my fourth year of physics, specialising in theoretical and mathematical modules. I have a deep passion for maths and physics, and perhaps an even greater passion for communicating my love and knowledge of the subjects, helping students to gain intuition and insight into the workings of both the abstract world of numbers and the highly mathematical world around us!
Although I prefer to focus on gaining a deeper and more intuitive understanding, I understand that you have a final goal: to achieve a certain grade in your exams. Luckily for you, I have taken maths and physics exams every year for the last 7 years and use the maths that I will be teaching you every day in my degree! Moreover, I have ‘been through the system’ as recently as 2016 (when I took my A Levels) so I know what it takes; I achieved an A* in Maths, Further Maths and Physics. I strongly believe that, having repeatedly worked through and overcome the common stumbling blocks of school level maths and physics myself, I can help you to do the same. This year I achieved a high 2.i in my Natural Sciences BA at Cambridge University. I am excited to start next year’s course when I will be studying general relativity, quantum field theory and particle physics! I also love languages, music, tennis and cycling and have kept these up throughout my degree.
Generally, I want to help you gain an intuitive understanding of the subject (as opposed to memorising how to do specific problems) as I strongly believe that this is the best way to boost your grade at any level. However, I am extremely flexible in my teaching methods depending on the student and the student’s wishes. I will evaluate what I think you need help with and tailor the lessons accordingly. So whether you want to boost your grades or want that extra challenge that you do not receive at school I can help you to look at the subject in a new and intuitive way.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach.
