I LOVE maths and believe I can pass on my love of the subject. I have been teaching maths and physics for years. I taught myself maths and physics, I helped my friends understand both subjects, I went on to teach a whole secondary school class and have delivered one-to-one tutoring from KS2 level up for nearly a decade with students from South Africa to China! I am now beginning a PhD in geometry which includes teaching at university level. My passion is mathematics, it’s for this reason that I like teaching it. Nothing’s better than helping others discover how wonderful and important it is. And while exams are important, there is real beauty and a rich history to be found if you know where to look (and I do). Mathematics is perhaps one of the only subjects with a whole culture surrounding it. While I am immersed in the subject, I understand others find it less attractive and can find it very stressful. Exploring its history and place in culture aids understanding of its mechanics and the tricks which help demystify it. Removing the fear helps people appreciate the subject as a whole, so let me share my love and knowledge of a subject which I fully intend to spend the rest of my life tackling.
The best way to get better at maths and physics is practice, practice, practice! I have a massive library of questions we can answer together, letting us both see where problems lie and address them immediately. Over the years, I have developed my own notes and question sets for the GCSE and Alevel curriculums which are highly adaptable for home schooling or extra support if required. I am happy to both set and mark homework if wanted. Tutoring is all about you and learning happens through conversation so I like to open a dialogue focusing on where you think problem areas are. My years of experience allow me to suggest different approaches and methods that may work for you while covering past papers allows us to see what progress you have made and make sure nothing is missed. They are also the best preparation for exams! Enjoyment of a subject will always encourage learning so I promise to make sessions fun, relaxed and, most importantly, centered around you!
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
