I am just starting my 4th year of an integrated masters degree in Mathematics at the University of Oxford. I have achieved an A* grade at both GCSE mathematics and A-level mathematics, along with a first class grade at every term of university. During university I have focused mainly on modules involving core mathematics, statistics, number theory, mathematical biology and cryptography. I very much enjoy learning and teaching maths and I am interested in undertaking a PHD in applied mathematics after my masters degree. I have lots of face to face tutoring experience in both a-level and university maths and aim to build on this to deliver quality video tutoring. I will help students achieve their goals in mathematics and hopefully in a way that is (fairly) interesting. Feel free to ask me any questions!
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
