Hiya, my name is Torie Hart and I have just graduated with a 1st class degree in Spanish from the University of Oxford. Since I graduated (June 2018) I have been doing a lot of tutoring, both online and face-to-face, in a range of subjects and levels. I absolutely love helping my students achieve their goals, especially when working towards exams or university entrance.
I specialise in teaching Spanish up to university degree level, with my special interests being Latin American Literature. I also have plenty of experience in teaching English (both to native speakers and as a foreign language), up to A Level. Furthermore, I tutor Latin up to GCSE Level and French up to A Level. I have tutored a number of students between the age of 7-21 and helped them successfully achieve their desired grades, e.g. one of my students was predicted a U and achieved a B at A Level. I am flexible in my teaching style, dependent on what each student wants to work on. In our first session, I will be keen to understand what you are studying, which areas of the subject you struggle with and how you learn best. My lessons vary from very exam specific practice to more general language exercises.
I think the most important thing between tutor and student is that we have an open relationship and that a student feels comfortable telling me which aspects of my teaching they find most and least useful, so I can adapt the lessons as we go on.
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
