I am currently studying for my DPhil (PhD) in pharmacology at the University of Oxford. I previously graduated with an MSc in pharmacology from the University of Oxford.
Before that I graduated top of my class in Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Loughborough University. Previous to attending Loughborough I won a competitive scholarship to attend a University in America. I had to attain a high score on the SAT and navigate the visa application process. I have extensive knowledge of the chemical and biological sciences.
My current research focuses on intracellular ion channels so my expertise is growing into biophysics as well. I currently demonstrate several practical classes for first and second year medical students, second year biomedical students, and MSc pharmacology students at the University of Oxford.
I have now delivered over 30 sessions to small groups, the sessions involve demonstrating the practical as well as asking the question to develop understanding. The conclusion requires me to deliver a summary of all the knowledge covered and place it in the wider context of what students have covered previously.
I am passionate about teaching, it is the most enjoyable part of my DPhil. Both my parents are teachers, and my brother is training to be a teacher. Students can expect dedicated and individualized tutoring. Sessions will be tailored to the needs and aims of students, ultimately translating into students achieving their goals of exam or entrance success.
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
