Hi! I’m Sandra, a second year Economics & Global Sustainable Development undergraduate at the University of Warwick. It took a lot of hard work to get to where I am, as academia didn’t always come naturally to me. Hence, I understand the need for tailor made sessions to suit everyone’s individual learning style. Be it visual, games, notes based or mind maps, I have session ideas that have you covered. Through real life examples and more tangible explanations, I’ll be able to make the more complicated ideas more accessible and also fun to learn! I’ve done well in my exams (getting into a top secondary school at 11+, all A* at GCSE and 2A* +1A at ALevels) so I can also be of help to anyone looking for tips with regards to exam preparation, targeting our sessions towards being able to get full marks in exam papers. But, it’s important to also be engaged whilst studying, so our sessions will be light hearted and informal – after all, you learn best when you’re relaxed and actually wanting to learn 🙂
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
