My name’s Henry, and I like solving puzzles. This has lead me to thrive throughout my maths education, and I now enjoy helping my students to understand and solve the puzzles they face during their maths education. I studied maths up to masters level at Oxford University, graduating in 2018. After a brief stint working in financial services, I am now applying for maths PhDs. My time at Oxford, including time working with the admissions teams, has left me with a good understanding for the application process which allows me to specialise in tutoring for the Maths Aptitude Test for Oxford applications. With 2 years of experience in tutoring the MAT, I have a wealth of experience to draw from for the benefit of my students.
My lessons will be structured by allowing lots of time for the student to ask questions to help the learning process. I will also end every lesson with a useful task/question for the student to answer to help consolidate their understanding prior to the next lesson. I hope progress will become apparent, but I think regular mini tests are also important to ensure understanding and help show areas that can be improved upon. Allowing the student to go over material in their own time after the lesson I believe is key for them to develop a solid understanding of the subject.
We only take tutor applications from candidates who are studying at the UK’s leading universities. Candidates who fulfil our grade criteria then pass to the interview stage, where a member of the TiC team will personally assess them for subject knowledge, communication skills and general tutoring approach. About 1 in 10 becomes a tutor on our site.
