Playing is important because it’s fun
“Playing is important because it’s fun!” said six-year-old Sonya Chan about the new style of playground introduced in Tuen Mun last month. Isn’t this the reason why parents take their children to the parks? Recent studies have shown that Hong Kong’s super-safe and boring playgrounds are failing our children. Hong Kong children are not being challenged with the generic playgrounds the government has doled out in recent years. Given the budget surplus the Hong Kong government is sitting on it is nice to know that some of the money is being used in a creative way. The Tuen Mun playground engages the senses with its interactive water zone, sand area and music zone featuring huge, built-in musical instruments to encourage children’s creative impulses.
