Help with Troublesome Teens
This article in the SCMP offers some practical suggestions about dealing with difficult or troublesome teens. The advice offered is broken into three main parts:
- Help with decision-making – Help teens make decisions and explain why something may not be in their best interest. Be a non-judgmental source of advice and encourage your child to share with you, talking through options.
- Natural consequences work best – When possible, let natural consequences help your teen learn his or her lesson.
- Stay calm, if humanly possible – Take deep breaths, remind yourself that anger is not going to help anything.
